Its been three months short since I started here, and the lovely thing is I feel like I have never really not been here...that's obviously really relevant to all the people I work with.. its quite amazing the way you can feel so at home somewhere when in fact the amount of time you have spent there is nothing in relation...its been quite an amazing three months.. so so much learnt, about myself, about the world, the environment and its truly a never ending cycle that just keeps me waking up to new and amazing things and I hope upon hope it never stops!!
home life has taken a new twist, I have had to let the kids take on a lot more at home as I now work and I have seen a great change in the way they now perceive things. The more I work here and see the impact we have on the environment I want to do as much as I can to help, my recycling has taken on a new level, I have reduced my landfill by 50 percent and truly its not rocket science... just be really really careful about what you throw away. I asked for two new recycling bins and now overfill them on a regular basis and its so weird how its not even thinking time any more its just perfectly natural and normal to sort our rubbish.. if only everyone could just click on to this, it does not cost anything not even time really just get your head into a better way of thinking. The kids are so much more aware, clothes that are no longer wanted get regularly put out for charity or are a perfect excuse for a clothes swapping party... much fun to be had on a rainy Sat afternoon I can assure you.. also Earth hour has become a regular thing in my house, once a week turn everything off just for an hour...yes even the good old television!!! and wow! reintroduce yourself to your family. Talking face to face instead of face booking! Social interaction where we actually care because the person in front of us is actually real ( I know right!! shock horror.. real people) saying things to people and watching a real reaction not just a smiley face.. I bloody love this idea and call me old fashioned I think we should all for a while just get back to basics and reinvent the family ideals that existed before the revolution that was the internet.. Green is so totally just the right way to be. Its the root of our existence and we are tramping on it on a daily basis... the sad fact is we do not even have to work hard to make it right, it does not cost, it does not require any extra part of our lives, all it needs is just a bit of rethinking and bingo! a lot of the time I hear "I am only one person how much difference can I make"........if everyone took that attitude, quite honestly nothing would ever get done.. every little step in the right direction is the right way to go.. WE CAN ALL MAKE SUCH A HUGE HUGE DIFFERENCE WITH A LITTLE STEP.. I have started with my tiny step.. please everyone.............step forward, ready..steady... GO GO GO..

The Green Desk

It's always the hardest place to start, the beginning! new friends, new relationships and probably right at this moment for me, a new job. I have just started work at a fantastic company called the Green Desk. Briefly just before this, I had the fantastic blessing to come to know an amazing lady called Binky, who started me on a more personal journey, the start of self awareness and belief, the start of a new way of thinking for me. This lovely lady put me in touch with Yasmin and Bruce, the founders of The Green Desk and once again back to the start....The beginning!
The Green desk: A Social Enterprise that raises money by selling recyclable, environmentally friendly office supplies, it then reinvests its money to charity, two in particular.... Woman's Aid and the UN billion tree campaign. Totally brilliant and an incredibly generous concept, one which works...Well!!!
This got me thinking and trust me I do that a lot! I guess we all try to do our bit for the enviroment wherever we can, some a lot more than others. Some of us separate our rubbish from the card and paper to the plastic, some donate money, others donating time to specific green issues, I guess we all try to do our bit but do any of do enough? honestly now!!! I think we can all do a little more. However since starting my work here at the Green desk, I realise its more than what we do physically!! being "Green" isnt just all about separating rubbish or donations etc its about a feeling...... A unique simple thing that can truly change everything.
Its caring enough to want to make the differance. It starts now.......................................................
